English Logic vs. Portuguese Language

Some question for students reflection- after watching the video:

* Do they look nervous or worried about the mistakes they can possibly make?

(Eles parecem nervosos ou preocupados com os erros que eles possivelmente podem cometer?)

* Do their mistakes interfere in our comprehension?

(Os erros deles interferem na nossa compreensão?)

* What is the best way to improve our language skills: 

(Qual é o melhor modo de melhorar nossas habilidades linguísticas:)

- to speak imperfectly and communicate, and sometimes be corrected for our eventual mistakes;

(- falar imperfeitamente e comunicar, e às vezes ser corrigido por nossos erros eventuais;)

OR

- avoid mistakes and do not speak until we are 100% sure of all structures.

(- evitar erros e não falar até estar 100% certo de todas as estruturas.)

* Are you 100% sure of all grammatical structures in Portuguese? When you write a dissertation or a report for work (or some sort of important writing) in Portuguese, do you proof read it or you always write it all correct straight away?

(* Você está 100% certo de todas as estruturas gramaticais do português? Quando você escreve uma dissertação ou um relatório para o trabalho (ou algum tipo de escrita importante) em português, você revisa sua escrita ou você sempre escreve tudo certo na primeira vez?)

No language has its rules carved in stone. Language is a living system and as we use and interact with it (interaction is its purpose, by the way) we change it. Mistakes are part of communication as much as they are part of its reconstruction.

(Nenhuma língua tem suas regras gravadas em pedra. A linguagem é um sistema vão e conforme usamos e interagimos com ela (interação é seu propósito, à propósito) nós a mudamos. Erros são parte da comunicação tanto quanto eles são parte da reconstrução dela.)

Language is  privilege of humans, and it is here to be used and abused!

Hello dear students,

This week I am posting a collection of videos from TED (a famous educational youtube channel) where they illustrate 2 sides of a story- regarding famous characters or events in history.
(Esta semana eu estou postando uma coleção de vídeos do TED (Um famoso canal educacional do Youtube) onde eles ilustram 2 lados de uma história- referentes a personagens ou eventos famosos na história.)

They expose the facts in a court where there are the judge, the defence attorney/lawyer and the prosecutor.
(Eles expõe os fatos em uma corte onde há um juiz, um advogado de defesa e um procurador.)

I find it very interesting!

Helen Keller- an inspiration for us all (uma inspiração para todos nós)

Helen Keller

Helen was born in the United States in 1880. She became very sick at the age of 9 months and she then became permanently blind and deaf.

(Helen nasceu nos Estados Unidos em 1880. Ela ficou muito doente aos 9 meses  e ela ficou permanentemente cega e surda.)

Her parents noticed at the age of 6 that she had a lot of spirit, but she was in a prison due to her early blindness and deafness. They felt no one could help her get out of her prison, the key has been thrown away and lost forever.

(Os pais dela notaram quando ela tinha 6 anos que ela era espirituosa, mas que ela estava em uma prisão devido a sua cegueira e surdez precoce. Eles sentiam que ninguém podia ajudá-la a sair de sua prisão, a chave havia sido perdida para sempre.)

But even so they persisted, they searched many specialists and they've heard of a school who taught deaf and blind people. They brought the the teacher Anne Sullivan to their house, hoping she would help Helen somehow.

(Mas mesmo assim eles persistiram, eles procurar muitos especialistas e eles ouviram falar de uma escola que ensinava pessoas surdas e cegas. Eles trouxeram a professora Anne Sullivan para a casa deles, esperando que ela ajudaria Helen de alguma forma.)

Anne Sullivan was persistent and caring. She saw Helen had a lot of potential and she never gave up.

(Anne Sullivan for persistente e carinhosa. Ela viu que Helen tinha muito potencial e ela nunca desistiu.)

Helen learned to read, write, express herself in English, Latin, French and German. She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of art-degree (Harvard).

(Helen aprendeu a ler, escrever e se expressar em inglês, latin, francês e alemão.) Ela foi a primeira pessoa surda-cega a conquistar o grau de bacharel em artes (letras) (Harvard).

This is an amazing inspiring story, for us all!

Helen also tried for many years to speak normally (she wasn't mute) but without a reference of sounds it was difficult. But even so she tried. You can she her speaking in this video.

(Helen também tentou or muitos anos falar normalmente (ela não era muda) mas sem a referência de sons isso era difícil. Mas mesmo assim ela tentou. Você pode ver ela falando neste vídeo.)
